Our Fairborn Dentist Blog Provides Information on Oral Health

DentistAs a dentist in Fairborn, our critical focus is to make sure that you have the best oral health care possible. While we want you to have very healthy teeth, we also want to help you understand some of the problems that can occur with your mouth and how to prevent them. In this sense, we are committed to a holistic version of dental care, which places a lot of emphasis on prevention rather than cure. Naturally, when you come in with a cavity, we are not going to talk about prevention until after we are done filling your cavity; the same applies for all dental conditions. We want you to be informed enough that you can make decisions that are good for your mouth, and come see us only for maintenance. There is no advice like the advice you can get from our dentist office since we know your history. For this reason, we want to make sure that when you are looking for information online, our blog is one of the places you look. There are a million searches each day, with people looking for everything from cruises to braces. With all of this information, it can become confusing, and often patients get misinformed about their own conditions. We prefer if you used the internet as a conversation starter and then schedule an appointment with our dentist office.

Routine dentist visits –

For most of our patients, the dentist visit is quite an uneventful affair. A large number of the patients that see us come in for a relatively common problem or to get their teeth cleaned on a regular schedule. While there is plenty to be alarmed about on the internet, once you are in the safe sanctuary of our dentist office, we will make sure that you do not fall victim to all those terrible diseases you have read about. We always chuckle at the idea of every a toothache being a precursor to having all of your teeth fall out or something equally horrendous. The truth is that most toothaches just go away, and if you have a persistent one you should come to see us. Toothaches are the most common of all dental ailments, ranking as the #2 most common reason people will miss work or school. Only the common cold claims more sick days. A toothache is a symptom, but usually, nothing to panic about since we can diagnose the problem and treat it right away.

The other condition we often see are cavities. Cavities are caused by the acidic secretions of oral bacteria, which eventually eat a small hole into the enamel of your teeth. Oral bacteria normally lives in the human mouth, where they exist in perfect harmony. Challenges start when you do not brush your teeth at least twice a day or do not visit the dentist for a regular cleaning twice a year. When the bacteria are allowed to multiply in significant numbers the acid they secrete increases as well. This is bad for the enamel as the acid will wear down the tooth till it is able to bore a hole in the enamel, which is known as a cavity. Fortunately, we can treat cavities in our dental office.
